THE famous Flying Scotsman will steam through the Wee County later this year as part of a one-off tour, north of the border.

Though tickets are expected to go quickly, rail enthusiasts can still catch a glimpse of the iconic locomotive as it travels through Clacks on Sunday, May 14.

It will make two journeys from Edinburgh, with the first heading into Fife via Dunfermline at lunchtime.

In the evening, however, The Flying Scotsman will leave the capital, cross the Forth, and circle Fife, before heading along the re-opened Alloa-Stirling railway.

From there, it will pass through the Wee County, and head back to Edinburgh through Stirling and Falkirk.

Marcus Robertson, the chairman of Steam Dreams, the company arranging the trips, said he was delighted to be working with the locomotive north of the border.

He added: "Although Flying Scotsman was built in England, it feels very much that the loco is a Scottish icon, and last year's trips were fantastically popular and earned Scotland publicity all over the world.

"We've had a lot of help from our friends at Network Rail here in Scotland and ScotRail themselves, who have worked incredibly hard to make all this possible, along with, of course, the National Railway Museum in York who are the custodians of Flying Scotsman."

The Alloa trip will take around four hours and 30 minutes, starting off at 5pm.
