HUNGRY Wee County visitors were treated to some delectable dishes during recent Taste of Syria events in the Hillfoots.

The first lunchtime session was held on Tuesday, August 14 (pictured) and the second on Friday, August 17, with an evening of fine food held on the Wednesday.

Locals attended the Ben Cleuch Centre for a sample of Levantine cuisine and there was a great response from those who attended.

The event was organised by the housing and customer service staff from Clackmannanshire Council, following the success of last year's gatherings.

Syrian families were asked if they would like to get involved by cooking some of their dishes to share with the community.

They were also invited to give details of their foodie delights and put together a recipe booklet, following on from feedback from the 2017 event.

A Taste of Syria was intended to bring everyone in the community together and also sought to give Clacks residents the chance to meet local Syrian families and enjoy some of their cultural dishes.

Lynette Murray, senior housing support officer at the council, said: "As part of our ongoing involvement in the Syrian Refugee Resettlement Scheme, the council is keen to encourage community involvement with the vulnerable families who have been resettled with us following the ongoing issues in their war-torn country.

"We were keen for the community to meet with families and learn something of what they experienced before arriving in Clackmannanshire and to help everyone learn more about each other’s cultures.

"For Syrian people, a big part of their culture revolves around food and eating together, and this is an ideal opportunity for the families and communities to get together in a relaxed and informal manner."
