A CLACKS rally driver has vowed to come back stronger after missing out on a prestigious award at the weekend.

Ashleigh Morris was nominated for a senior gold star by the British Women Racing Drivers Club (BWRDC) and appeared at the NEC in Birmingham earlier in the month.

Sadly for the Dollar woman, she missed out but insists she is proud of herself for being nominated given she was only a member of the club for a few months.

Ashleigh told the Advertiser: “Unfortunately I didn’t win. It was a fantastic opportunity. I wasn’t expecting a nomination so it was a really big honour.

“It would have been really nice to win but it was great to be recognised as a nominee.”

Ashleigh was one of three vying for the award with Jo Polley walking away the victor.

Far from disheartening the Wee County star, Ashleigh has vowed to fight harder in 2019 to make sure she is once again nominated.

She continued: “I will be doing everything I can to get nominated again next year. It was a great experience being on the Motorsport UK stage all getting our photos taken before the winner was announced.”

The attention now turns back to racing for Ashleigh, who is excited to get back in her car after a horror crash in her home race at Knockhill at the tail end of 2018.

The car is now back up and running just in time for this weekend’s race which will give her the chance to get back at it.

Ashleigh added: “We had some technical issues with the gearbox this week but they’ve been sorted out and the car will be as good as new come Saturday.

“I’m looking forward to the weekend although it wasn’t our strongest race last year.

“It was good to get back in the car and I am really excited to just get out there at the weekend.”
