THERE was a strong turnout at Alloa's Bowmar Community Centre last week for the launch of Clax 1400.

The group, developed by four local parents, aims to unite Wee County residents by bringing people together for fun, and for collective action on community issues.

At its inaugural meeting on Friday, February 8, the group's organisers were presented with food hygiene certificates and cooking skills qualifications.

This comes just a few months after they also successfully completed a leadership training course facilitated by the social enterprise group Columba 1400, and Clacks Council.

As a result, they can now run Clax 1400's café, which will be open at the Bowmar Community Centre every Friday from 9.30am until 12.30am.

Locals are invited to drop in and meet up with others, find out what is available in the community and access support.

A spokesperson for Clax 1400 told the Advertiser: "This group is working to put a bit of community spirit back into the area.

"That's the aim with the café, and there'll be a small charge for that just to cover costs."

Should the idea prove to be successful in the area, the group will look to expand and offer more in the months ahead.

They said: "It's hoped the group can develop and maybe open on an afternoon at some point.

"In time they might even look at getting speakers in once a month – but that's in future."
