AN ALVA disc jockey is promoting the Wee County with his two weekly shows on an online radio station.

DJ Steve Mac, a familiar name that often crops up at pub nights and events, was recently invited to join Stirling City Radio as a volunteer and now has two regular slots.

He also uses his Sunday Sesh With Steve Mac and Lunchtime with Steve Mac on Tuesdays to tell everyone about things to do in the wider area, including in Clackmannanshire.

The DJ, who started spinning records around 35 years ago with Radio Tay, has been mobile with his roadshow for many years, entertaining patrons at various pubs and the likes in the area.

That is something he will continue, but going back into a studio is bringing both new opportunities and challenges for him.

Steve explained: "I do a lot about Alloa and Alva and the reason I do that is because Alloa doesn't have a radio station so I promote it as much as I can."

When it comes to choosing the records he brings a great variety from throughout the ages to cater for audiences of all ages.

The DJ is also looking to further enhance his Sunday show, on each week between 2pm and 4pm, along the Tuesday slot between 1pm and 3pm, by bringing in guests for talks.

The station is broadcast over the web, meaning listeners come not just from the local area, but from all over the world, including Newport in Wales or even Tenerife.

Steve said: "It's changed dramatically from when I started with two turntables I can assure you.

"It's for the better, it really is for the better.

"You are not just going into an area with FM and medium-wave, you are going all over the world."

Steve was "delighted" to be drafted in and praised the family atmosphere at Stirling City Radio.

He add that the team was made up of the "nicest guys you could ever meet".

Indeed, he is not the only Clacks DJ at the station with Ronnie McLean, also from Alva, sitting in the chair on a regular basis.

James Russell, boss at the station, praised Steve for his passion.

He said: "He is a larger than life character, he is a good asset to the station, as all other DJs are.

"We consider ourselves as a family and Steve is very much part of the family, more of a big brother figure.

"He is a wonderful guy, always laughing and that comes across the radio as well."
