MUCKHART FootGolf Club triumphed in their first ever home league match over the weekend.

The Wee County players finished with a final score of 29-5 against their counterparts from Ayr on Sunday, May 19.

The result comes just a few weeks after the Clacks club took part in its first club match – resulting in a draw against Glasgow – having only formed earlier this year.

Neil Shave, Muckhart FootGolf Club's founding member, told the Advertiser: "It was absolutely fantastic, and the players can't wait for the next match."

The club, which is based at Muckhart Golf Club, is made up of 26 players who come from a variety of different backgrounds.

Neil said: "We've got a good mix of golfers: Some play serious competitions, and the rest are all new players who might have a background in football or golf.

"The club league that Muckhart play in is a really good entry to the game, because it's very social and players of all ages and genders take part."

Neil was keen to praise the golf club's staff for the hospitality they showed to all those who played on Sunday – particularly the cooks with Stravaig Bistro for their lovely food.

Footgolf has been growing in popularity for years, and as the name suggests, brings together elements of football and golf.

In practice, players follow many of the same rules as golf, but kick footballs down range instead of hitting golfballs.
