A CHEQUE for a five-figure sum has been handed over to a charity following a celebrity golf tournament in Alloa.

Football personalities descended on Alloa Golf Club in Sauchie last month for an annual event, raising money for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

Delighted organiser Andrew Matheson (centre) and club captain Bill Brown (left) were joined by the charity’s local volunteer Moira Bruce, chief executive Maria McGill and Rita Craig, also a local CHAS helper.

The chief executive said: “Andrew Matheson and Alloa Golf Club have been raising money for CHAS at their annual golf tournament since 2001 and it’s a huge achievement to have raised £10,005 this year.

“This brings the total amount they have raised to £117,999.14, which is just phenomenal, and we are incredibly grateful for all the hard work that goes into organising this event each and every year.

“Every penny will go towards the sustainability of care that CHAS gives to so many babies, children, young people and their families, whether it’s dedicated nurse care, a week of respite, a simple meal or a hydrotherapy session.

“We really can’t thank Andrew and the Club enough for their continued support.”
