A CAMPAIGN to bring a Dementia Resource Centre to the Wee County is continuing following a further two events recently.

Last week during Dementia Awareness Week Alzheimer Scotland, the Stirling and Clackmannanshire dementia fundraising branch held an afternoon tea fundraising event held at the McDonald Inchyra Hotel.

Over 170 ladies enjoyed a presentation with a glass of fizz before a raffle which included a Louboutin bag and coin purse donated by Pam Jenkins Shoes.

Other prizes were donated by Malcolm Allan Butchers, Rod Smith hairdressers and Silver Linings Therapies. The event raised £3,700 towards the total target of £100,000.

On Saturday June 8 volunteers and staff from the local team were in the the Stirling Thistle Centre. A video was shown to demonstrate what a resource centre will look like and can offer the community. Local people visited the desk asking for information about local services available to them as both carers, family members and being Diagnosed with Dementia.

There was also a special treat as dementia dog, Ruby, was there with her owners.

Ruby is an extremely quiet natured black Labrador who is a calming companion for her owners. The dogs are allocated very carefully following an in-depth matching process to ensure they meet their new owner’s health requirements together with their own wellbeing needs.

Travelling through an airport recently, Peter found that although there was so much sensory overload providing, he concentrated on Ruby who was at his side throughout the journey and he managed to remain calm.

Trained dogs are capable of assisting a person to dress and undress, take medication when required, to fetch and pass items and to travel on bus routes as part of their learned skills.

To date this year the Branch have raised £41,000 towards their £100,000 target to kit out a Dementia Resource Centre. Several fundraising events and many local groups have contributed to this tremendous amount.
