STIRLING'S Macrobert Arts Centre is hosting a special screening of Robert the Bruce next week, with its lead star and director in attendance.

Angus Macfadyen and Richard Gray will take in a showing of the movie this Friday, June 28.

The duo will also chair a Q&A session about the flick on the night.

Macfadyen once again takes on the role of the famous Scottish king, having portrayed The Bruce in Mel Gibson's Oscar-winning Braveheart in 1995.

This time around, the Glasgow-born actor lends his talent as co-writer in a tale designed to give audiences a more intimate take on the legendary Scot.

Robert the Bruce starts where Braveheart left off, following the protagonist over a long winter in the Highlands.

Delving into a time period when his whereabouts were unknown, the film focuses on a caring, peasant family.

Their connection with Robert inspired him to a deeper understanding of the patriotism of ordinary Scots, ultimately bringing about his passionate return to the stage and to victory over the English.

Next Friday's screening of the movie will also be a welcome return to Macrobert for Macfadyen, who attended the 1995 premiere of Braveheart.

Macrobert will run the movie until Thursday, July 4.

Tickets for all screenings of Robert The Bruce, including, Friday, June 28, follow Macrobert’s Pay What You Can pricing structure, giving audience a choice to pay £4.50, £6.50 or £8.50.
