IT'S a remarkable eight-in-a-row for Acrobay Gymnastics Club after their sensational winning streak continued at a national competition.

The club, based in Rosyth, were represented at the 2019 Scottish National Acrobatic Gymnastics Championships where, in addition to claiming gold and silver medals and 11 new Scottish champions titles, they were crowned Scottish FIG Team Championships for an incredible eighth successive year.

A total of 15 gymnasts from Acrobay's FIG (International) competition group took part in the event at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell on June 8, taking on some of Scotland's best acrobatic gymnasts in the hunt for medals, titles and to claim the coveted team trophy.

Representing the club were Eve Gillies and Sophie Humphries (Age 11-16 Women's Pairs); Olivia Kerr, Erin Bailey and Kayla Ballantyne (Age 11-16 Women's Groups); Rebecca Stewart, Ellie Hortsmann and Scarlett Haldane (Age 12-18 Women's Groups); Rosie Jasper, Abby Martindale and Grace Crawford (Age 13-19 Women's Groups); and Erin Henderson, Sacha Muir and Chloe Rowlands (Senior Women's Groups).

All five partnerships gave strong, stunning performances in each of their three routines, which was reflected in the scores.

On a day that saw each partnership achieve personal bests, the Acrobay gymnasts dominated the medal podium, with Eve and Sophie; Olivia, Erin and Kayla; Rebecca, Ellie and Scarlett, and Sacha, Erin and Chloe all winning gold and the title of national champions at FIG (international) level.

Also reaching the podium were Rosie, Abby and Grace, who took home silver gongs, while the FIG team competition ran alongside the individual partnerships events.

Selected scores from each club's performances were counted towards a final total to decide this year's top team and, after their gymnasts pulled in some of the highest scores over the course of the competition, Acrobay were once again crowned as Scotland's FIG team champions.

Elated head coach Suzanne Fraser was full of praise for her team, commenting: "Acrobay had a fantastic day, with personal bests all round and, to top it off, retaining the Scottish FIG team champions title.

"This really was an amazing achievement as we were up against some serious talent from the other Scottish clubs. The girls were all outstanding; it’s great to see all their hard work paying off."
