CHILDREN from Lochies won a contest to name a train planter at a soon-to-open community garden in Sauchie.

The school’s Gartmorn Class won the competition organised by Sauchie Gardening Group, which is developing an outdoor space under 11 Mar Place, across from the Mansfield Arms.

Children were asked to name a train planter and Flower of Sauchie was the winning entry, the gardening group later presenting a donation to Lochies in appreciation.

The gardeners were warmly welcomed at the school and were entertained with a rousing rendition of Flower of Scotland.

The train, kindly donated by Mr Marshall of Cambus, will be the centrepiece of the garden and the winning class agreed to adopt and look after it.

An open event is being planned to celebrate the completion of the garden on August 30, from 1pm to 4pm with entertainment and light refreshments.

The gardening group is an affiliate of Sauchie Community Group, based at the resource centre.
