A CHARITABLE tea party went down a treat in Alloa at the weekend with hundreds of pounds raised.

The town’s Ladybird Tea Room on Sunday, July 21, threw a Blooming Great Tea Party for Marie Curie Cancer Care and its nurses who support terminally ill patients.

It was the fourth year in a row the local tea room decided to support the cause, which is close to the hearts of many, including owner Alison Turner.

Indeed, the small but bright premises acts as a base for local fundraisers and Alison will never forget how the charity’s nurses supported her father when he was battling cancer.

The day saw some Marie Curie nurses in attendance, volunteers, home bakes and treats, raffles and the likes as well as a performance by the Alloa Bowmar Pipe Band, who were thanked for their continued support, playing at the event year-on-year.

Just short of £500 was raised on the day and with a few goods still on sale at the time of writing, Alison was confident she would reach that final figure.

She wanted to thank the “amazing” pipe band, the volunteers who came to help, the two nurses in attendance and everyone who helped in any way or donated.

Alison added: “It was a lovely afternoon for a great cause.”

She will be looking forward to putting the event on once more next year, with the hopes she can raise around £500 again for the brilliant cause.

And said: “Again, thanks to the Wee County and the people for coming along, having a cuppa tea and a cake and putting their hands in the pocket for a good cause.”
