AN ORGANISATION which helps people beat their addictions is hoping to open a substance misuse centre in Clackmannanshire.

Change Grow Live (CGL) provides support to adults, children and families who are going through addiction difficulties by offering innovative and creative approaches to dealing with their demons.

Recently the group submitted a planning application to Clacks Council as it looked set to move into the site of an old Post Office in Alloa, although that plan has now been scrapped due to privacy concerns.

The search goes on, however, as CGL remain determined to find a location in the Wee County, Stirling or Falkirk which will suit its needs.

Beverley, a service manager at the organisation, told the Advertiser that she plans to meet with community councils and residents to discuss any concerns regarding the potential centre.

She said: “We are no longer looking at the Post Office building for a variety of reasons, one of which being we need the users to have privacy and for them to be comfortable.

“We are looking at a variety of buildings and when we looked at the Alloa one we thought it wasn’t the right one because of money. It is needing a bit of renovation; it is also a bit too central.”

Beverley continued by saying that within the building drug and alcohol addicts would be able to undergo interventions and seek support for their problems in a comfortable and safe environment.

She said: “We want to have the ability to offer positive changes. Provide education, group work and welcome the recovery community in, too.”

One key aspect of the centre would also be to provide clean injecting equipment to addicts who aren’t in a position to enter recovery.

Beverly is now set to host a meeting with the Alloa Community Council tonight [Wednesday] to discuss concerns, and will also take to the streets to speak to people to hear the community’s’ thoughts on the matter too.
