THE Scottish SPCA is appealing for donations of towels and sheets to help a variety of animals in the care of their National Wildlife Rescue Centre at Fishcross.

Scotland's animal welfare charity is currently caring for hedgehogs, seals, otters, pine martens, a wide range of birds and more.

Centre Manager Colin Seddon said: "Summer is our busiest time. We currently have over 1,300 casualties in our care with in excess of 50 new arrivals each day.

"It's a very eventful time in the animal world as summer is when lots of wildlife have their young.

"At the moment, we are caring for hoglets, fawns, baby bats, young otters and a number of fledglings and baby birds.

"Claire, one of our amazing animal care assistants, has been hand rearing a hedgehog named Mary since she was a hoglet.

"Bedding and sheets have been invaluable during this process to keep hoglets like Mary warm and comfortable and to allow Claire to handle her.

"If anyone can spare old towels and sheets, these are incredibly useful for rearing animals like Mary, but also useful for bedding and handling many of our casualties, including seal pups."

Old sheets and towels can be dropped off at the centre from 10am-4pm at Fishcross, Clackmannanshire FK10 3AN.
