PLANS for a residential development with 73 residential units right next to Alloa Golf Club have been lodged with Clackmannanshire Council last week.

Owners at the Schawpark course are looking to receive the nod for 37 apartments, six detached houses, eight semi-detached houses, six terraced houses, 16 cottage flats, new access points, landscaping and the re-organisation of the existing club car park.

It is understood the development would take place on a vacant greenfield on a 2.76-hectare site.

According to drawings, the dwellings would be erected between the northern boundary of the course's ground and the fairway and green for the first hole.

The car park for golfers and the putting green would be relocated nearer to the club house and pro shop and a SUDS pond would also be created.

There are already 115 vehicle parking spaces at the golf club, but the number of places would increase to 280 across the site.

A planning statement with the application said: "The proposal is for a contemporary built form, and footprint, which will be sympathetic to the adjacent residential settlements; considering built form, rhythm, vernacular style, material palette and interpretation of the same."

"Given the location there is a presumption for the introduction of high quality of building materials and landscaping within the site, and also a desire to see the development linked to the broader context by the improvement of the adopted roads footpath network in the immediate context to the site."

It added: "The design approach has sought to develop proposals that respect the existing landscape that bounds and delivers quality of amenity and space to the site.

"Public open space is to be provided as green landscaped areas.

"The existing public right of way will be maintained between the new residential development and Schawpark Golf Course.

"Pedestrian and vehicle access to the site is to be provided via the 2 new junctions to Alloa Road.

"Access to the golf club, football club [Sauchie Juniors] and nursing home [Beechwood Park] will remain unchanged."
