A man is being treated in hospital after being stabbed in the neck. Officers were called to Morants Close in Chichester at about 6.30pm on Saturday following an apparent domestic incident.

A woman known to the man was arrested at the scene in connection with the assault.

Witnesses said they saw the 50-year-old man come out of the house with the blade still in his neck. The detectives and scenes of crimes officers were sent to the scene, where onlookers said a trail of blood was being washed from the pavement. Neighbours said they heard the police helicopter in the area and officers were on the scene for several hours.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "Sussex Police responded to reports of a domestic incident inside a property in Morants Close, Chichester, at 6.30pm on Saturday (August 17).

"A man in his 50s was found with a neck injury, believed to be caused by a knife. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

"A 58-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding with intent and remains in custody while enquiries are ongoing.

"The man and woman are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.”
