A KIND-HEARTED youngster's tea party has raised a staggering £2,000 for charity.

Ramsay Snedden, 12, held the event at the home of his grandparents – Robert and Margaret – in Sauchie late last month.

It was organised in memory of his late mother Leona, who sadly passed away due to brain tumour in 2010.

All the funds have since been handed over to Strathcarron Hospice, which works to provide specialist palliative care to people in the Forth Valley area.

Robert and Margaret, both 66, got in touch with the Advertiser to let people know about their grandson's successful event.

Margaret said: "It went brilliantly, but the weather was absolutely atrocious.

"We had two gazebos, and folk just made the best of it."

Robert added: "We've been doing it since 2011, but this is the first year we decided to put it in the paper.

"It started at £300 – that's how much was raised the first year."

And since then the event has grown and grown.

Attendees typically include friends, family and neighbours, and the tea party runs throughout the day.

Speaking about the most recent event, Robert said: "Basically what we have is tea, coffee and cakes, from 10.30am until 3.30pm, then we have a break and it becomes wine, beer and cake."

Margaret continued: "Ramsay did a karaoke in the evening, so he was getting them all up to sing."

Around 65 people showed up to the latest tea party, and all of them were impressed with just how dedicated young Ramsay was to making his fundraiser a success.

Robert praised the young man and added: "The way I look at it, he's the engine, and that then brings everyone in."

And Margaret said: "Everybody there was like: 'Oh my goodness,' because he's just a proper, nice kid.

"He takes everything in his stride, and doesn't get phased by anything."

Soon after all the donations were collected, Ramsay handed over a cheque to Strathcarron Hospice.

According to one of their fundraisers, the money would pay for four patients for a day – or 10 outpatients for the same period.

Robert wanted to pass thanks from Ramsay to everyone involved in the event and for their generosity.

And special mention also go to both his grandmothers, too, for all their hard work to make the tea party a success.
