AN AFTERNOON tea and dance event in memory of a popular Wee County man was a roaring success last week.

Bert's Bash was held at Parklands Care Home on the afternoon of Sunday, September 1.

The event was organised by staff from The Ladybird Tearoom, in memory of Bert – one of their customers who sadly passed away last year after a battle with Alzheimer's.

Staff there knew him and his family well, and since he loved dancing throughout his life, they felt it was only right to hold an event featuring dancing to remember him.

When asked how she felt Bert's Bash went, Alison Turner from The Ladybird Tearoom said: "It was great.

"We had a great afternoon, and everyone enjoyed themselves."

Around 100 people showed up on the day, and many dressed up, in keeping with the event's 1940s theme.

Entertainment was provided by two ladies from the Alloa Musical Players, and a fifteen strong group of local Ukulele players performed as well.

Funds were collected throughout the event, and £1,300 was raised and passed on to the local branch of Alzheimer Scotland.

That money will now help to fund their plans for a dementia resource centre in the Forth Valley.

Debbie Cassidy, from the Alzheimer Scotland local Stirling and Clackmannanshire Branch, said she was thrilled with the level of support in the county.

She added: "Alzheimer Scotland local Stirling and Clackmannanshire Branch are campaigning to open the first local Dementia Resource Centre.

"It will be the first in the Forth Valley area and will provide services and activities for everyone living with dementia, supporting carers and cared for alike.

"When Alison heard of the fundraising target of £100,000 to kit out a local centre she immediately offered to hold an Afternoon Tea Dance.

"The local Branch of Alzheimer Scotland could not be more delighted with The Ladybird Tearoom raising a tremendous £1300 from the event which could not have been done without a lot of involvement from our musicians too."
