ALLOA FIRST has announced the appointment of Hugh McMichael as their new chair of their board of directors.

Hugh will replace Neil McFarlane, owner of Gordon R McFarlane Jewellers, who has stepped down from the position.

Hugh is a partner in the family business McMichael's, that operates both the Sony Centre & Euronics Home Appliance store on Mill Street.

Now in its fourth generation, McMichael's have been operating in Alloa since 1910 – making them one of the longest-trading businesses of Alloa.

Speaking about his appointment, Hugh said: "This is a great time to be taking on the role as chair of Alloa First.

"We've already started to make small changes by introducing the monthly market to the town centre, the launch of the new Alloa First website and actively marketing Alloa to a wider audience.

"I'm looking forward to the further planned activity and improvements from the Stronger Towns Fund awarded to the town centre and in which Alloa First have a key role to play."

Hugh also thanked his predecessor for his commitment to the job.

In response, Neil McFarlane, added: "I'm delighted to hand over the baton over to Hugh, who is well-respected and well-known in the town.

"I'd like to thank him for agreeing to take on the job and wish him every success in his role as chair."
