A GLASGOW author who fell in love with reading at her local library is to spearhead an event for Libraries Week.

Angela Proctor, who writes the Thumble Tumble picture books for children as AH Proctor, explained: “I went to the library every Saturday morning with my dad, who loves to read. On the way home through Tollcross Park, he’d conjure up stories for me – if I’d picked a book on trolls, for example, suddenly there would be trolls hiding in the park.”

This Wednesday (October 9), Angela is spearheading an exclusive free event at the Mitchell Library exploring how libraries can help to keep children and young people safe online. The event will also look at the important role libraries play in supporting children’s realisation of their human rights in the digital world.

Angela will be joined by a panel of young people and representatives from a range of organisations including the Children and Young People’s Commissioner Scotland, Young Scot; NSPCC Scotland and the Scottish Youth Parliament.

“I hope the event will lead to innovative new initiatives and partnerships within libraries across Scotland,” added Angela, whose latest book, Thumble Tumble and the Goblin Pirates, has just been published.
