The Music of Cream

Chalk, Brighton, Thursday

relatives of three of the world’s most highly regarded musicians are bringing their family legacies to the stage for a night of music.

Ginger Baker, Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce took over the world as Cream.

There is scheduled to be a tribute to their music at Chalk, formerly The Haunt, in Brighton on Thursday – although the event will no doubt be tinged with sadness after Baker, one of rock’s greatest drummers, died yesterday. It remains to be seen if the event will go ahead.

Cream’s music touched millions and made them one of the biggest rock bands of the Sixties.

Now their family members are paying tribute to them and their music.

Kofi Baker, Malcolm Bruce and Will Johns will bring the legacy of Cream back to life in an immersive multi-media live show, at Chalk. Tickets cost £27.50.

The live music will be interspersed with archive footage of the original band, unseen interviews and personal anecdotes from the trio of growing up with the musical legends.

Kofi is the son of Ginger, Malcolm is the son of Jack and Will is the nephew of Eric Clapton and son of famed Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix engineer Andy Johns.

Formed in 1966, Cream’s star only burned briefly but it was enough to make them one of the most well regarded rock acts of the 20th century.

Their debut album, Fresh Cream, was released in 1966, with Disraeli Gears following the year after.

The 1968 album Wheels Of Fire was the first double album to go platinum and topped the charts in the USA. The band split in 1969, following the release of Goodbye.

In the years that would follow Clapton and Baker founded the short-lived group Blind Faith. Jack Bruce died in 2014 following a battle with liver disease. For tickets to The Music of Cream visit Chalk’s website.
