STAFF at a Wee County secondary school have been recognised for their stellar work by their industry body.

Alloa Academy staff are celebrating national success after they were awarded the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) annual award for excellence in professional learning.

Just 18 schools from across the whole of Scotland were awarded this prestigious title and the Alloa Academy community can now look at their school with immense pride.

Colin Bruce, headteacher at the school told the Advertiser that he could not be prouder of the hard work of their teachers and learning assistants.

He said: "I wish every member of staff could have been invited to the GTCS awards as it was a real team effort.

"This staff award recognises the amount of effort our staff have put into their own professional learning.

"Teaching staff have embraced new tracking systems, modern teaching and learning methods along with a host of other strategies that aim to improve experiences for young people and empower teachers.

"What I am particularly pleased with is that staff are willing to share their practice with colleagues and learn in collaboration".

At the awards evening, which was held in Glasgow, Ken Muir, chief executive of the GTCS, said: "These awards recognise and celebrate the commitment to high-quality professional learning and leadership of learning shown by our teachers, learning communities and organisations.

"This type of learning has the potential to transform the lives of children and young people in our schools."

Anne Pearson, chief education officer at Clackmannanshire Council, attended the event and endorsed the hard work and commitment from staff across the Wee County.

She said: "I'm delighted at the amount of professional learning going on across the schools Clackmannanshire Schools.
