Rosyth 5 Newburgh 1

A HAT-TRICK from Barry Sibanda helped inspire five-star Rosyth to an emphatic demolition of second-top Newburgh at the Fleet Grounds.

Brian Muirhead's side responded superbly to their defeat to leaders Stoneyburn last time out with what he described as "probably the best 90 minutes" of their season so far.

Jack Henderson gave the hosts the advantage midway through the opening period and, although Scott Hudson levelled quickly, Scott Gibb restored their advantage in first-half stoppage time.

After the break, Rosyth dominated and Sibanda was at the heart of it, netting in the 56th and 67th minutes to put them into what proved to be an unassailable lead.

With eight minutes to go, he sealed the match ball in stunning style with a superb free kick that his boss likened to Marcus Rashford's recent effort for Manchester United at Chelsea.

"Do you remember Rashford's free kick? It was like that but further out," Muirhead enthused.

"I said to Dean (Ogg, his assistant) before he took it that we'd need to fine him for a new ball!

"It was amazing. He picked his spot, the top corner at the near post; he put it over the wall and it dipped at the last minute. It was one of the best goals you'll see in junior football.

"I have to give the guys all the credit they deserve. It was probably the best 90 minutes that we've put together over the course of the season.

"We worked on a few things during the week and they worked a treat. The second half was really impressive to watch; we pressed and defended at the right times, controlled the ball and the tempo, and it could have been more.

"I can't fault anybody and we outplayed them. It was good to watch but I expect us to do that all the time.

"If we play like that every week, we'll be in with a shout, and they've set a standard.

"We can't drop below that but I still think we can play better. There are things to work on, and we can still improve, but all the plaudits go to them."

Scottish Lowland Football League:

East Kilbride 0 Kelty Hearts 1

BARRY FERGUSON praised what he felt was a dominant performance from Kelty Hearts after they maintained their place at the top of the table.

Nathan Austin's first-half goal proved decisive in securing victory at reigning champions East Kilbride, who finished the game with 10 men after their captain, former Pars defender Craig Reid, was sent off for two bookable offences.

This was the New Central Park outfit's first match in two weeks but there were few goalscoring chances for either side in the early exchanges, although Thomas Reilly did test home goalkeeper Matthew McGinley from distance.

Reid, who won the SPFL League One title with Dunfermline in 2016, was shown his first yellow card after 11 minutes for a foul on Austin, who opened the scoring nine minutes before the interval. He latched onto a pass and, after outmuscling his marker, slotted calmly beyond McGinley and into the far corner for his 26th of the season.

Moments later, Austin struck the frame of the goal as Kelty chased a second, then Reid was given his marching orders for a late tackle on the former Inverness and Falkirk striker.

"We deserved to win the game," Ferguson told the club's online video channel.

"I know they went down to 10 men but I thought we dominated the game. The only thing I'm disappointed with is we didn't get another two or three goals.

"When you're at 1-0 in the last 10 minutes, they're throwing everything at you but we defended well, and I thought some of our play at times was really good."

East of Scotland League, Premier Division:

Penicuik Athletic 4 Crossgates Primrose 1

CROSSGATES PRIMROSE went down to a second successive defeat after three goals in the final 20 minutes by Scottish Cup giantkillers Penicuik Athletic.

Alan Campbell's men were on course for a point after Scott Lawrie's superb first-half free kick cancelled out Paul Tansey's opener.

But the hosts, who dumped SPFL League Two outfit Stenhousemuir out of the Scottish Cup the week before, regained the initiative through Liam O'Donnell's close-range effort.

Further goals from Tansey and Lumbo Kateleza sealed it for Penicuik, who sit seventh in the table, while Primrose drop to 12th, five points clear of bottom side Sauchie.

East of Scotland League, First Division, Conference A/Conference B:

Stirling University (EOSFL) 1 Oakley United 3

STEWART KENNY has hailed Oakley United's "character" and "resilience" after they fought back to claim a fifth successive victory on Saturday.

The Alex Jack Cup finalists followed up last Tuesday night's impressive 2-1 success at Dunipace by staging a second-half comeback to defeat Stirling University and rack up a sixth league win of the campaign.

The students took the lead from a corner to lead at the interval but, seven minutes into the second half, Dylan McGowan equalised for the Blairwood Park outfit.

McGowan turned provider on the hour mark, sending in a corner for Craig Martin to head home their second of the afternoon, and the points were sealed in the final minute when Stuart Love converted from the penalty spot after Mark Allan was felled.

Boss Kenny commented: "That's five wins in a row now and long may it continue.

"They were two different and contrasting games. Dunipace are a very good side but I felt that the players were outstanding to a man. We played really well and it possibly could have been a bit more.

"It's a tough place to go – they were unbeaten in seven home games and had kept five clean sheets – which says a lot for our boys to go there and win.

"Against a uni team, you know what you're getting. They're young, energetic and hard to break down, and they took the lead from a corner, which was slack marking from us.

"Our guys, to their credit, showed a lot of resilience. This season they're showing a lot of character, and we came out in the second half and upped the tempo and took the game to them.

"We're getting better as the weeks go on and the players are coming to training in their numbers, training hard and working for each other.

"It's a nice place to be at the moment."
