A POPULAR display of Christmas trees is returning to an Alloa church this year with businesses being asked to sponsor and decorate festive spruces.

The Festival of Lights at St Mungo's Parish Church is set to bring a Christmas glow to the town while raising funds for the congregation when it opens with a display of more than 30 trees on Friday, November 29.

People will be able to head along to the Bedford Place church from 4pm to see the lights getting switched on and the church will be open to visitors until 8pm.

Saturday, November 30, will be the main day of the event and is set to see the display open throughout the day with various stalls offering cake, candy, a tombola, gift ideas and the likes along with a café selling refreshments – most will be available between 10am and 6.30pm, the café closing at 4pm.

A variety of live entertainment is also being organised for the day.

Sunday will see a Christmas afternoon tea from 2pm to 5pm, this is a ticketed event which sold out last year – contact Graeme or Janette Hunter at the church to book.

Session clerk Marie Campbell, organising, is hoping for a great turnout – the festival was fairly popular last time around with more than 400 people through the doors.

Local businesses still have a chance to sponsor and decorate a tree, showing off their creativity.

Traders interested in dressing a tree up should contact Marie via mecsclerk@gmail.com for more details.

The event is promised to be brilliant fun for all the family with something for all ages.
