EUROPEAN news crews arrived in Callander earlier this week as they covered former MEP Alyn Smyth as he continued his campaign to be elected MP for Stirling.

Elisabet Svane, a correspondent for the Danish publication Politiken, and Alex Westermann and crew from the German broadcaster ARD TV joined Mr Smith on the trail on Monday, November 11.

They then covered a “meet the candidate” meeting session at the Old Rectory in the town, where locals were invited to come along for one to one meetings with Mr Smith, where they could ask him anything they wanted.

The candidate was also joined by a team from the Financial Times on the day, and had been joined by a Wall Street Journal journalist in Cambusbarron the day before.

In coming days, Mr Smith will be joined by news crews from Japan as well as a Danish broadcaster on the campaign trail.  While in Callander, ARD TV also filmed several locals for reaction to the campaign.

Mr Smith said: “It was great to have our friends from across Europe join us on the campaign trail. This is an important election for Scotland and our place in Europe and we are putting the whole Stirling area back on the map.

“We’ve had a few meet the candidate sessions across the constituency now, with more planned elsewhere, and they’ve gone really well - with folk dropping in to ask a variety of questions, or to share their ideas with me.

“I’m speaking to as many people across this constituency as I possibly can, and I look forward to continuing to do so as we enter the final four weeks of campaigning.”
