A WEE COUNTY community group has been recognised for the stellar cycling activities it provides residents with.

Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT) was last week awarded the Silver Cycling Friendly Community Award, a worthy gong given the hard work members have put in over the recent months.

The award was presented by Peter Mills, development officer from Cycling Scotland, despite having applied for a lesser prize from the organisation/

The trust had applied for the bronze award, but had been awarded silver, due to the standard of work that the trust is delivering.

Events put on by the trust recently include the monthly saddle up cycle rides, delivering bike maintenance and cycle leader training as well as delivering Clackmannan Primary School's bikeability programme for P5-P7's and hosting events such as merry and bright night cycle and many more popular events.

Scott Bamford, CDT's active travel co-ordinator, said: "We are so pleased to have received this award and feel very fortunate to have such a supportive group of cycle ride leaders who form our 'saddle up' cycling group and the backing of the trust and our other community partners such as Clackmannan Primary School.

"CDT has developed its active travel programme significantly over the course of 2019, and held its first ever active travel week in September - which over 250 people participated in.

"We are really excited to share more developments with the community in 2020 and getting more people back out on their bike and using it as a means for transport as well as for leisure."
