AN APPRECIATIVE audience received superb treatment when Clacks Choral performed a Christmas carol to support a charity drive.

The singers and musicians from the Wee County showcased their rendition of Ring the Bells by Paul Fincham of the London Philharmonic Choir at St Mungo's Parish Church in Alloa this month.

Royalties of the song will go to homelessness charity Crisis as part of a UK-wide charity drive by the choir in London and it is understood Clacks Choral was the only Scottish group to support the initiative in this way.

Crisis Scotland's fundraising manager also visited on Saturday, December 7, when the concert took place to drop off some publicity material and collection buckets so those heading along could support the End Homelessness initiative.

The move raised nearly £200, in addition to the royalties.

Also on the programme for the day were a selection of pieces aiming to bring some festive cheer.

Accompanist Ben Eames preformed Bach's Toccata in E minor while tenor John Maddox performed The Wassail Song.

Soprano Viv Fairchild and bass Ewart McAuslane were then in a duet, showcasing their version of Whispering Hope while baritone Donal Hurley put on the stage Ag Criost an Siol – sung in Irish with his own violin accompaniment.

Musical director Mike Nolan was also in action with Bach's Chorale Preludes on In Dulci Jubilo, playing on the church's excellent sounding digital pipe organ.

The local choir is now taking a well-deserved break and will be back in St Mungo's for rehearsals at 7pm on Monday, January 6.

Anyone interested in joining, with no scary audition involved, can head along to inquire at that time.
