A WEE COUNTY pensioners group held its annual Christmas lunch last week as they enjoyed a full home-cooked traditional meal.

Volunteers came together to provide two days of Christmas cheer for the local Tullibody pensioners.

The team from St Serfs and St Bernadette's churches, the Guild, Community Council and Tullibody Community Development Centre formed a group in September to enable the event on December 5 and 6 at St Serfs Church Hall.

A spokeswoman for the event said: "Over 100 pensioners came along and enjoyed a delicious home cooked Christmas dinner with entertainment provided by local Singing For Memories pianist Alex and the school kids from St Serf's and Banchory Primary Schools.

"Lornshill Academy pupils came along to serve the meals at the lunch events. The funding was organised and raised by volunteers Donald and Decima who approached local organisations and shops for donations.

"We were fortunate in receiving donations from The local Rotary Club, Alloa Round Table, Ochilview Housing Association, Marshall Construction, H&K Crawford Electrical, Boll Holiday Cottages, members of St Serf's church congregation, Tullibody Co-op, Scotmid and Tron Newsagents."

Tullibody pensioners Jean Drummond and Clarice Carmichael said that they all really enjoyed the lunch and entertainment and thanked everyone for all their hard work as they led the pensioners into song at the finale with Auld Lang Syne.

Due to the success of the event the volunteers are planning to hold it again next Christmas.
