A SAUCHIE man has once again transformed his garden into a Winter Wonderland for passers-by to enjoy.

Denis Hinchcliffe has been lighting up his garden for more than 20 years and the display proved to be even bigger this year.

He and his friend John White started the tradition and this year they also had help from Hugh Ross and his son Euan.

The help from the men is vital to the display, according to Denis' wife Elizabeth.

She said: "Euan, who is clearly by far the youngest, did most of the climbing to sort out the higher up parts."

Denis added: "John White is absolutely brilliant. If anything goes wrong, he can repair it."

The lights begin going up at the start of October, with any lights that aren't brand new being tested before they go out.

Two of the standout features are the movie projector and a Santa in the window.

The projector plays children's films while a projector upstairs has Santa walking by the window and greeting the visitors.

Elizabeth said: "The kids think Santa lives here in Sauchie.

"Denis always really liked Christmas and it's very cheery when you hear the kids jumping up and down getting so excited."

Not only is the display a fantastic festive treat for anyone who wishes to enjoy it, a donations box collects money which goes to Strathcarron Hospice.

When the Advertiser visited last year, Denis and Elizabeth were hoping to raise more than £1,200. They ended up collecting more than £2,000 and are hoping for more again this year.

The festive illuminations go on as soon as it gets dark and anyone who wishes to visit can do so until around 10pm.

Visitors are free to walk around the garden and enjoy all the lights.

As the lights have been tradition for two decades, Elizabeth now sees those who first visited the house as children are now bringing their own kids to see the display.

The garden is already covered in lights and different settings, but she added that Denis has "tons" left over and he has been telling people he still plans to add more.
