KIND-HEARTED villagers have collected food, toiletries and treats to provide a Christmas surprise for some lucky Kincardine residents in a random act of kindness.

Kincardine Community Centre, in conjunction with Kincardine Slimming World group, worked together to try to give something back to the people in the community who help others in the village all year round.

Nominations were made by local people and the recipients will receive a surprise wrapped goodie box in the days leading up to Christmas Day.

Kincardine Community Centre also operate a food waste reduction project called Kincardine Community Food Hub, as a member of the UK-wide Fare Share project, which aims to redistribute surplus food to local charities in order to reduce food waste and tackle hunger.

The community centre also operates a thriving community café, staffed entirely by volunteers and open twice a week.

It provided Christmas lunch for more than 80 local people recently.

A proportion of the items collected for the 'Random act of kindness' project have been donated by people using the food hub.

Rebecca Sinclair, one of the community centre's hard-working staff members, said: "It's been amazing to see how generous local people have been in donating to this project."

Linda Brodie, the centre's lead volunteer and community café manager, added: "It's been really emotional hearing from local people about who they'd like to nominate and why, people here really care about each other."
