TWO local groups received generous donations of Christmas gifts from Marchglen Care Centre last month.

Running its Christmas Shoebox Appeal for the third year in a row, staff and resident at the Fishcross-based centre filled, packed and wrapped a total of 36 boxes with presents.

The presents were kindly donated by staff and residents’ family members, and included items such as toiletries, stationery and other essentials.

They were then split between Alloa’s The Gate and Hawkhill Community Centre, and passed on to locals in time for December 25.

Representatives from each organisation stopped by Marchglen to collect their 18 boxes each, as well as to attend an afternoon tea to mark the handover, on December 6.

When asked about how the donations went down with the groups, Marchglen’s Molly Stevenson told the Advertiser: “They were really, really pleased.”

She also mentioned this year’s shoebox appeal was their best one yet, with almost 40 boxes filled compared with 19 last year, and 9 the year before.

And while Molly is leaving her role at Marchglen in 2020, she said it’s hoped that Christmas Shoebox Appeal with continue to run in future years.

She also thanked staff at the centre, as well as residents and their family members, for supporting the initiative.
