EFFORTS to make Clackmannan a cycling town continues with the advent of a brand new group this month.

The Saddle Up team, led by Clackmannan Development Trust active travel coordinator Scott Bamford, will meet up on the second Sunday of every month.

Their activities kickstart on Sunday, January 12, with a ride along the Black Devon wetlands on a route that follows the river upstream.

Scott said: "Going out on a led ride is a great way to meet like-minded folk knowing you are in safe hands and in good company.

"It increases your confidence in cycling and signing to a ride up gives you the incentive to get out there and give it a go."

The total distance for the cycle will be six miles; however, there will be the option to extend the route if the group wishes.

The route makes use of local road paths and some minor roads, avoiding any significant hills.

Anyone who is interested, but does not have a bike can still attend as the CDT have a fleet of new bikes and helmets which can be used free of charge for all the Saddle Up outings.

Scott is offering cycle support and lessons at a time and date that suits for anyone who does not feel confident enough to join the group cycle.

There will also be a free Dr Bike session on Saturday, January 11 from 1pm to 4pm at the new CDT premises located at No. 5 Main Street in Clackmannan, formerly the Brucefield Lounge, where riders can bring their own bikes to get serviced and checked.
