WEE COUNTY families are having fewer children, according to the latest statistics.

There was a notable decrease in the number of babies born to Clacks households last year.

The local Registration Office also found there was a significant increase in the number of deaths recorded.

Every year the service notes the number of births, still-births, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths and published its statistics for 2019 recently.

In total, there were 411 babies registered in Clacks last year, compared to 478 in 2018.

Of those babies, 207 were girls and 204 were boys, with eight sets of twins amongst those registered.

The most popular name for boys in Clacks was Jack, and Olivia for girls.

Charlie and Sophie were the second most popular names, respectively.

There were 186 marriages in 2019, a slight increase on the 180 from the year before.

Of the 186 marriages, 88 were civil, 63 were religious, and 35 were humanist.

There were no civil partnerships registered in the area last year.

The number of deaths increased from 586 in 2018, to 648 in 2019, with women living an average of four years longer than men.

There were also 20 new British citizens welcomed into Clacks through citizenship ceremonies, down from 30 in 2018, but up from the 7 registered in 2017.
