THERE will be a chance to learn more about what Wee County community groups can offer for local folks, volunteers and trustees next month.

Connect Alloa is organising a community day and has invited a number of organisations and groups to showcase their activities and to point people in the right direction.

The event is set to go ahead at St Mungo's Parish Church in Alloa on Saturday, February 22, with drop-ins between 10am and 3pm.

Dave Crozier, the man behind the Connect Alloa idea, said: "I think that there's not enough of us shouting about not only what we can do, but what other places do as well.

"Not only can for example Connect Alloa provide for youth and young adults, but other days of the week you can go to the LGBT Clacks group."

With that in mind, Dave hopes to tell people about what other organisations can do as well, while the day will also be an opportunity for keen folks to learn about potential volunteering and trustee opportunities.

All stall spaces were gone in the matter of just a few days after the idea came about.

There will be a diverse range of groups with Resonate Together, Wee County Veterans, Hawkhill Community Centre, Reachout With Arts in Mind as well as Falkirk and Clackmannanshire Carers coming along.

Also present will be members of a few church groups and its in-the-making community café.

Refreshments will be available by donation with money going to St Mungo's as a thank you for providing the space.

Dave said: "I've got a really good team behind me working on this, it's an idea the trustee team came up with but the volunteers are running with it and they are throwing ideas and suggestions at me."

He felt there was a need for an event and added: "It's what the community should be doing, we should be shouting about things for each other.

"The best part is, one of our new trustees, Courtney Furmage, has just completed an HND in events management, I'm going to help plan it, but she is going to run the day."
