MORRISONS staff in Alloa are to host a day of fundraising in aid of children and young people battling cancer.

The group will be marking World Cancer Day on February 4 at the supermarket and will be selling limited edition charity wristbands in aid of CLIC Sargent.

The good cause supports young people living with cancer and will be highlighting the disruption and devastation a diagnosis has on the lives of children.

Morrisons will also have buckets at tills to collect more for its charity partners and there are hopes to bring in local CLIC Sargent volunteers for more direct fundraising.

Efforts will not stop there as staff will later raffle off a hamper on Wednesday and Thursday, February 5 and 6.

Dave Crozier, community champion at the supermarket in Alloa, said: "I think cancer has touched most of us in some way, even if not directly.

"If we can raise some awareness and some money for CLIC Sargent along the way then we have to at least try.

"Every pound raised and every wristband sold helps CLIC Sargent support not just young people, but families in Clackmannanshire and around the country cope following a devastating cancer diagnosis."

Shoppers will be encouraged to show their support by wearing the charity's wristband, which will be available in three different designs for a suggested donation of £2.

Holli Kellett, Morrisons partnership lead at CLIC Sargent, added: "A huge thank you goes to Morrisons Alloa for organising such fantastic World Cancer Day fundraising.

"All money raised will support young people whose lives have been put on hold by cancer.

"That's why we're raising awareness of the impact cancer has on young people and their families.

"The store's enthusiasm for World Cancer Day shows the ongoing dedication of Morrisons colleagues for CLIC Sargent and we think this is going to be the biggest World Cancer Day of the partnership yet."
