AN APPLICATION has been lodged to develop an eyesore brownfield site in Alva.

Proposals are to build six flats and three bungalows at the former Alva Glen Hotel on Stirling Street.

The plot of land has been lying empty for some time and previous development bids have understood to have stalled.

Indeed, in 2018, the Advertiser reported how some nearby residents were “totally fed up” with the state of the site.

The application was validated by Clackmannanshire Council last week and is awaiting decision.

A comment by ward representative Councillor Donald Balsillie welcomed the application and its scale, but highlighted serious concerns over the design of the elevation facing Stirling Street.

He said: “I request that the Planning Service enter into discussions to improve the design and elevation of the property facing onto Stirling Street so that it enhances the area's sense of place and compliments the quality of the buildings on the Main Street of Alva.

“I reserve the right to provide additional comment within the consultation period; however, these are my initial observations on the drawings provided.”
