A SEX offender has admitted failing to adhere to the notification requirements of the sex offenders' register.

Alloa's John Nugent pleaded guilty to the offence at the town's Sheriff Court on Monday, February 24.

The 40-year-old had opened a bank account on December 2 last year, which he failed to inform police of within three days.

He is required to do so, as he is subject to the notification requirements of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

Nugent was placed on the sex offenders register after being convicted of three charges of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour at the High Court in Perth in 2011.

He was also imprisoned for 18-months in relation to those offences.

In court on Monday, prosecutor Susannah Hutchison gave details of his latest offence.

She said: "One of the conditions is he must notify police within three days of any new bank account or card.

"He is subject to these requirements until October 21, 2021.

"He was visited by police officers, and during the course of the visit there was a bank card in the house observed on the shelf.

"He advised he had opened a bank account and was unaware he needed to tell police about it."

In mitigation, solicitor Robert Smith said the account had been opened after his client experienced difficulties claiming benefits.

He said: "He simply wasn't aware of the requirements.

"He had the bank account because of the closure of the Post Office, and was advised to open the bank account."

Nugent, of Whins Road, was not present in court when the plea of guilty was tendered on his behalf.

Sheriff Craig Harris said: "Given it is a breach of a court order, I would wish him to be present for sentencing."

He then deferred the case until March 2.
