WORLD Book Day came to the Wee County last week and Abercromby Primary School and Nursery dressed up to celebrate.
The event on March 5 was the 23rd World Book Day and is an annual celebration of authors, illustrators and books.
Most importantly, it’s a celebration of reading and Abercromby pupils were dressed as classic children’s literary characters for the event.
Lauren Davis is a Primary 1 teacher at Abercromby and she was delighted with the effort the kids made for World Book Day.
She said: “It went really well, we asked the kids to dress up and there was also a book swap between classes so each pupil went home to their parents with a new book.
“Everyone also went home with a book token for a free book.”
Harry Potter was in attendance, alongside Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox, while superheroes such as Spiderman and Superman also made an appearance.
World Book Day supply millions of book tokens to children and young people which can then be exchanged for one of 10 exclusive new books.
Research has found that almost 60 per cent of children who participate in World Book Day read more books, almost half buy more books and a third also read more with their parents.
