A CONCERT in Alloa has been cancelled, with regret, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Clackmannanshire Choral Society was due to give its annual Spring Concert at the end of April, but the spread of COVID-19 has forced the hand of organisers.

The choir had been hard at rehearsing since January; however, in light of the need to contain the virus, it was decided it would be best to avoid infecting people at practice or indeed at the concert, which had been well attended and popular in previous years.

The choir very much hopes to return with the annual Christmas Concert later in the year, but with plans to start rehearsals as soon as the virus is gone.

Viv Fairchild, choir president, said: "As the coronavirus can spread in areas where many people come into close contact, it would have been irresponsible to ignore the potential threat.

"In the interests of safety, the committee has taken the difficult decision to cancel the Spring Concert as well as the remaining rehearsals for this season.

"We hope that our audience will understand that we have a duty of care to them as well as to the choir members, so we will not take any risks with regard to their health.

"We look forward to entertaining them at future concerts."

As Viv explained, the usual Monday night rehearsals, which take place at St Mungo's Parish Church in Alloa from 7pm, will not go ahead.
