SOUTHSIDE supermarkets are limiting shoppers to two items only in a bid to stop stockpilers ransacking stores during the coronavirus pandemic. 

Pictures have emerged of notices in Sainsbury's stores south of the Clyde telling customers of the strict new rules for some products, including pasta. 

It comes as shops across Glasgow issue new measures to ease pressure on elderly and vulnerable shoppers during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Asda has also announced it is restricting shoppers to three items on all food and closing its cafes and pizza counters, while temporarily reducing the opening hours of all its 24-hour stores for re-stocking.

Aldi has already introduced limits of four items per shopper across all products.

Many stores have also introduced time slots prioritising their most vulnerable customers.

We told of this week of Iceland stores across Glasgow opening their doors between 10am and 11am for elderly shoppers.

"This is fabulous, absolutely super," said shopper Sheena Mitchell, 77.

"It's a wonderful thing to do and it means you won't be fighting with everybody else.

"I find that in the shops you just can't get the things you went out for. I just want the ordinary hand wash but there isn't any left - you wonder what people were using before."
