A man was left needing hospital treatment after being stabbed by two thugs on a busy Renfrew street.

The 23-year-old suffered serious injuries to his head, body, and leg when he was attacked by two men in Paisley Road, just outside the Co-op store.

Detectives investigating the shocking incident say the victim was pounced upon by the brutes as he walked along the road at around 8pm on Saturday.

They believe at least one knife was used by the two men during the incident.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but the attackers had fled. They took the man to the Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where he was treated for his wounds and later released.

Cops are still trying to determine the movements of the man and the thugs but believe they were in and around Robertson Park earlier in the evening.

Detective Ian Ross, based in Paisley, told our sister title The Gazette: "This was a shocking attacking in the middle of a busy street.

"It will still have been just about light at that time, so we are sure someone must have seen something.

"We are still trying to determine the exact movements of the victim and his two attackers and are currently scouring CCTV.

"We are also conducting door-to-door enquiries.

"We would ask for anyone who has seen anything to please get in touch with us by phoning 101."
