THE last Glasgow subway train will now leave St Enoch at 9pm from tonight after a revised timetable was announced. 

Transport bosses have taken the decision to close the underground system early due to the coronavirus crisis. 

Previously trains continued to run as late as 11.30pm on weeknights.

It comes after Prime Minister Boris Johnson and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon ordered a lockdown of the country in an attempt to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

In NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, there are now 183 cases of coronavirus as the death toll in Scotland rose to 16.

Despite the lockdown images were circulating online of people cramming onto ScotRail carriages in Glasgow.

SPT, the firm who run Glasgow Subway, has now taken the decision to close the network until further notice.

Bosses said they will continually review services about when to reopen the underground again.

In a statement Glasgow Subway said: "From [today] the Subway will close at 9pm, when the last train leaves St Enoch.

"We will be continually reviewing services & will update when any changes.

"Please only travel if you are an essential key worker and your journey is absolutely necessary."
