A POPULAR Alloa restaurant has closed its doors until the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is at an end.

In statement released on Facebook on Thursday, March 26, the owner of Italian restaurant Bar Aldo's said it was a decision that was once unthinkable.

The statement read: "After opening our doors 13 years ago we never thought we would have to close the door completely.

"I have taken the decision to close the doors on delivery also; we are a family business and it would just be selfish to stay open.

"I'm making this decision to protect my staff, family and, most importantly, the community.

"It's been an extremely difficult decision to close...but it's the only one."

In the days leading up to the decision, Bar Aldo's had transformed from a restaurant into a supplier of fresh bread and pasta for Wee County residents.

The initiative was introduced to help people who found nothing but empty shelves when searching for the two essential products in the shops.

But in spite of the decision to close the business, Bar Aldo's owner's statement added: "We will reopen when this passes.

"Let's all stick together and beat [coronavirus]. Stay at home. Stay safe

"Thanks to the community for your amazing support lately and we are extremely sorry for letting you down by closing.

"All vouchers expiring during this time we will honour when we reopen.

"We will be back better than ever."
