A Morton's Roll delivery driver was threatened at gunpoint in Port Glasgow before the thief made off with his van.

The armed robbery took place in Oronsay Avenue on Saturday around 11.30pm.

The Mercedes Sprinter van with a Morton's Roll logo was approached by a man covering his face with a scarf.

He threatened the driver with a gun and demanded he gets out of the vehicle.

The driver did as he was told and ran off.

He was uninjured but was left badly shaken by the incident.

The thief drove off with the van in the direction of Rona Avenue in Port Glasgow.

It is believed the vehicle was then set on fire as officers attended a vehicle fire in Pladda Fields near Arran Avenue shortly after midnight.

Officers believe that this vehicle was the van stolen at gunpoint and it has now been seized for forensic investigation.

Detective Inspector Robert Bowie said: “We are in the process of checking CCTV footage for any additional information on the incident and the occupants of the van.

"I am appealing to local residents in Oronsay Avenue and near to Pladda Fields, Port Glasgow to contact us if they saw or heard anything from their homes.

"In particular, if anyone saw a light coloured vehicle being driven around these areas during the hours noted.
