MORE than £100,000 has been spent by road chiefs on street signs in the past five years.

Figures from Glasgow City Council show £100,506 was splashed on fixing, installing and replacing markings across the East End since January 2015.

The Baillieston ward has been the biggest beneficiary, while Shettleston comes bottom of the pile.

According to a Freedom of Information (FOI) request submitted by The Glasgow Times, £29,329 was spent on communities in the likes of Broomhouse, Swinton, and

This was more than five times the £5,347.24 those in Tollcross, Mount Vernon and Carmyle received up until the end of March 20.

Communities in the North East, including Ruchazie, Easterhouse and Gatloch, benefitted from £24,950 on signage.

Meanwhile, a bumper £22,527 for East Centre on roads such as Alexandra Parade and John Knox Street was the third most spent in the city’s East End.

Dennistoun’s £5927 funding package was marginally ahead of bottom-placed Shettleston, with High Street and Cumbernauld Road among those to be treated to repair and replacement work.

The most expensive street sign job in the last five years was the installation of a minor scheme in Bellrock Street, in the North East, in June 2016 for £6008.
