TICKETS are still on sale for TRSNMT this summer, despite events across the globe being cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Pressure is growing on organisers of the Glasgow Green showpiece to provide clarity for thousands of punters ahead of the event in July.

A number of major festivals, including Glastonbury, have already been postponed due to the worldwide pandemic while the likes of Wimbledon and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have also been cut from the summer calendar.

Tickets worth more than £100 were still on sale on TRSNMT’s website yesterday despite it being understood organisers and chiefs at Glasgow City Council have held discussions in recent days over the event’s future.

MP Alison Thewliss, who represents Glasgow Central, is among those asking for organisers to provide clarity to music fans.

She told our siter paper, The Glasgow Times: “These are unique circumstances we find ourselves in, and whilst there is always disappointment when events are cancelled or postponed, it’s completely understandable in the current context. The health and wellbeing of the public must be the priority.

“We have seen statements regarding other high profile events in recent days, and it would be useful in the case of TRNSMT for fans and the public to know what’s happening as soon as possible.”

As things, stand, organisers are still adamant the showpiece, which will see the likes of Lewis Capaldi and Amy MacDonald take to the stage, will still go ahead.

But, it is still uncertain how long lockdown rules will be in place in Scotland and chief medical officer Dr Catherine Calderwood has warned it could be the end of June before life begins to return to normal.

In their most recent statement, organisers DF Concerts said: “TRNSMT is still scheduled to go ahead as planned and we look forward to welcoming everyone.

“The health and safety of festivalgoers, staff, artists and the surrounding community is our main priority and we are constantly monitoring the situation.”
