A WEE COUNTY man is “dead chuffed” to have completed a half marathon during his daily exercise outing.

Alloa’s Paul Fishwick hoped to complete the official Alloa Half Marathon last month.

However, the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown measures announced by the prime minister resulted in the race being cancelled.

So instead, 58-year-old Paul laced up his running shoes and followed the planned route on March 29 – finishing in one hour 58 minutes and 16 seconds.

Ahead of the run, he shared his plan to complete the feat with the Advertiser, and said one of his big motivations was to raise awareness of The Gate charity.

And speaking after his run, he said: “I was dead chuffed, I was hoping to do it in roundabout the two-hour mark, and I’m pretty good at keeping a steady pace.

“It was nice on the day, perfect running conditions: quite sunny with a cool breeze.”

Paul was also pleased with the response from locals after he spoke of his desire to raise awareness of the needs of The Gate at such a crucial time.

He said: “I just thought if I can help raise some awareness then everyone’s a winner.”

In the days after Paul’s run, The Gate thanked locals for their generosity.

As always, the charity relies on that generosity from Wee County residents to help it provide support to those most in need in the area.
