A COMMUNITY organisation in the Wee County is making a huge effort to stay connected online during the coronavirus lockdown.

The award-winning Sauchie Community Group has moved its activities online after the Covid-19 outbreak disrupted all aspects of everyday life.

While people are not allowed to come together physically in a bid to reduce the spread of the virus, staff and volunteers are determined to keep events going.

The famous Sauchie Community Group Choir, which delighted many with its Christmas Extravaganza at Alloa Town Hall a few months ago, is rehearsing online.

Members even recorded mini concerts at home, which have been shared on the group's social media pages.

Craig Miller, co-community manager at Sauchie Community Group, said: "We were devastated at the prospect of having to potentially close our doors for months because of Covid-19.

"However, the fantastic committee decided that we must do everything we can to continue to keep in touch with those who use our activities.

"Sauchie Community Group Choir rehearsals now take place on video conferencing software Zoom.

"It was great to see everyone together again and singing, enjoying the music and laughing at the technical problems that we will be ironing out over the next couple of weeks."

With the choir online, mini concerts have been recorded by a range of local singing sensations, musicians and storytellers.

They include the likes of Leona Hens, Susan Chown, Sheila McRobert, Andrew Fowler, Alastair Faulkner, Donald Cowan, Michael and Phil Morrison as well as Craig himself.

There is even a weekly disco, with none other than former Clackmannanshire Citizen of the Year Keith Turner spinning the records, along with a karaoke session and a quiz.

Craig added: "Keith Turner, one of the original members of Sauchie Community Group, is running a weekly disco from his living room that is live streamed out.

"[This means] everyone can have a few refreshments and snacks from the comfort of their own home, whilst they are entertained – I even know a few people were up dancing.

"We are so lucky to have lots of talented supporters who have been busy recording mini concerts that we are posting on our social media every couple of days.

"We are also looking at providing story time, quizzes and a 'look back across the ages' activities.

"Everything we can do to stay connected, we will.

"We hope more and more people will log in and take part in the exciting programme we have created for the community."
