A DEER suffered a "cruel" death after getting caught in an illegal snare at a popular spot for Wee County dogwalkers.

The animal was located by officers in the wooded area of Broomieknowe in Tullibody on Sunday, May 12.

They then seized the snare – which likely choked the animal to death – and it is currently undergoing forensic examination.

Constable Laura Robertson said: "This area is often used by people walking their dogs and I am appealing to anyone who was in the area on Friday to think back and consider if they saw anything which seemed odd or suspicious.

"It's imperative, whoever is responsible for this cruel act against a defenceless animal is traced.
