A MUSICAL duo has been performing in the car parks of Clacks care homes in a bid 'lift the spirits' of residents and staff.

Tullibody's Dave Anderson and Alloa's Ben Hughes initially started off by getting together – while maintaining social distancing – to perform in the streets to accompany Clap for Carers every Thursday.

With Dave on the drums and Ben on the bagpipes, they delighted those who heard them.

Soon after they started, Dave suggested they start playing outside some local care homes as a treat to all those living and working inside them.

Dave, who plays for the Camelon and District Pipe Band, told the Advertiser: "It's about giving them something to lift their spirits up.

"They [care home staff] are doing a fantastic job and working hard, and the residents can't go out.

"I used to work in a care home, and I know the hard work that they do.

"I've got the utmost respect for all the carers within the care homes."

So, they have been touring the area and have so far played outside Parklands Care Home and Ludgate House.

A spokesperson from Ludgate House told the Advertiser: "Dave and Ben agreed to come and play in the carpark, and we informed the residents. They loved it – they were so excited.

"They're missing their families, so it was really really nice for them to be able to see.

"I'd like to thank them for coming down to do it, we're so grateful."

With two care homes entertained so far, Dave and Ben don't appear to have any plans on easing up.

Dave said they want to keep doing what they can to keep the residents and staff of Clacks care homes happy during the lockdown – and even beyond.

He said: "If we can bring some joy into their life, we'll keep doing it."
